Drawing Tools - 3D House

This image was snipped from Microsoft Office Word Document and was made by using drawing tools.

TO MAKE THE..
- orange base for the house I created a rectangle and chose the 3D effect.
- roof of the house and the pots for the plants I did the same 3D affect.
- dirt underneath the plants I used a certain gradient to colour a parallelogram.
- cactus plant I used one of the star shapes and filled it in green.
- other plant I created a shape with the lines and copied over to make the fan shape.
- windows I selected the rectangle shapes and chose a gradient to create the 'shining' effect.
- door I used the rounded rectangle and made lines to make it look like a door.

Painting Tools - Different Uses

Pencil Tool - The pencil tool allows you to edit the image pixel by pixel.
Paint Bucket Tool - The paint bucket tool allows you to quickly fill areas of a similiar colour to another.
Text Tool - The text tool is used to put text ontop of images.

Eraser Tool - The eraser tool is used to erase areas of an image.
Colour Picker Tool - The colour picker tool is used to pick up a colour from an active layer of an image.

Zoom Tool - The zoom tool allows you to zoom in or out of the image.
Brushes - Clicking the brushes button allows you to choose between a variety of different brushes. Similiar to the pencil tool but paints on top of the image.
Shapes - This box allows you to choose a shape and put it onto your image. You can adjust height and width. You may also flip and spin the image.

Sizes - This button allows you to choose the size of your pencil or brushstroke.

Colours Pallette - The colour pallette allows you to choose colours and change between them while editing the image.

Edit Colours - This button allows you to add different colours to the colour pallette.

Draw VS. Paint

DRAWING PROGRAMS
- Drawing programs create images composed of objects (eg. squares, circles etc.) The objects can have properties such as colours and line thickness.
- These objects can easily be editted. Examples, moving the image and resizing the image.
- Drawing programs create VECTOR files.
- An example of a drawing program is Inkscape.

PAINT PROGRAMS
- Paint programs create image pixel by pixel. In other words, there are no objects. The computer does not identify what you have drawn as a shape, but instead saves the image pixel by pixel.
- Files they create are called BITMAPPED.
- Example of a paint program is Adobe Photoshop and Gimp.

Graphic Terms ; Definitions

Animated gif – it is an image file format which is suitable for images with relatively few colours such as brand logos and charts. The format is used for simple image animation effects(example above)

JPEG – a file format generally used for image compressions.
Pixel – The smallest discrete component of an image or picture on a CRT screen.
BMP – an image file format used to store bitmap digital images.
Flip – flipping images so they are facing the opposite way.
Video card – a hardware you install onto your computer to allow it to send video signals to an external output device such as a monitor and projector.
Crop – to cut out a certain an area from a picture.
Mirror – An image that has its parts arranged with a reversal of right and left, as it would appear if seen in a mirror.

FPS(frames per second) – how fast the frames change per second.
Frame – each slide in the animation that creates the movement.
Morph – to change shape of the computer animation.
CPU – A central processing unit. The part of the computer that does the majority of the data processing.
DPI – revolution that varies across media. Image files are optimized as dots per inch.
Resolution – The number of pixels per square inch on a computer-generated display. The higher the resolution the better the picture.(example on the left)
File extension - A short series of letters and/or numerals at the end of a personal computer filename, used to indicate the type of file and the software that will be required to operate or open it.
Compression - An algorithm or scheme used to compress or shrink a file. A file in compressed form must first be uncompressed or transformed before it can be read, displayed, or used. Files available through anonymous FTP are often stored in compressed form and must be treated as binary files.
Frame buffer - a buffer that stores the contents of an image pixel by anpixel.
Colour Depth - Color depth or bit depth, is a computer graphics term describing the number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in a bitmapped image or video frame buffer. This concept is also known as bits per pixel (bpp), particularly when specified along with the number of bits used (example below)
